Readiness and Preparation

We become ready to have defects removed

“It‘s only when we have nothing else to hold onto that we‘re willing to try something very audacious and scary, only when we‘re free of the allure, the enticements, the familiar and comfortable lies of the patriarchy will we be able to alter our perspective enough, change our feelings enough, gather enough courage to see and grab the next rope and continue our journey home.”
Sonia Johnson

Going out of our Minds: The Metaphysics of Liberation

Readiness is the key to change. We have seen how our flaws of character have infected our relationships. We become prepared to have God remove our shortcomings.

Are you willing to go to any lengths to stop the defects you have tortured yourself and others with? Do you need to have the lying, cheating and all around misconduct taken away? Can you really look anyone in the face when you shave that stroke off your score? Is your handicap true and honest?

Can our Higher Power remove these defects of character? We see the proof among us. People do have the capacity to change, but there is always a desire in them to have God help them.

When we see how we have allowed these defects to dominate us and have lived long enough in discomfort, wouldn’t we prepare ourselves to have them removed?

God did not make us to live alone, isolated from others.

We are not talking about sainthood. We are asking for change, an honesty and willingness to become teachable. We have been unhappy individuals. We have a reputation which keeps us from enjoying the company of others. We have a chip on our shoulder.

Obtaining change will come in increments. The desire to hold on to our old ways will be strong. Half the battle has been breaking through the denial. We are half way there. This is a life long commitment. No matter how far we have come there will be the shortcoming which will rear its ugly head if we do not ask for the help to have it taken away.

These defects have defined who we are. They are a part of our personalities. Do we want these defects to define who we are? We think not.

We Pray:

“God help me to become willing and ready to let go of all the things to which I cling. Help me to be prepared to let You remove all these shortcomings, so Your will and purpose may take place.
