Devotional
When I decided to write this page, I doubted whether anyone needed another daily devotional to add to the thousands that are available and in use today. I heard that still small voice, and am directed to add to the devotional listings. Along with daily golf tips, we also need direction for our souls. To ponder and meditate on things spiritual, will heal us and point us in the direction of spirit. The difference will be that this is not a “daily” writing, I have found through my years of working these steps that working on one thing for a week rather than something different everyday, helped me understand and internalize the message, and this in turn produced better results. We have enough clutter distracting us, and if I read something today and go my merry way, the prayer and the meditation is only good for a day. We must be fed for a life time, and that comes from practicing these principles, which lead us to live these principles.
We seek peace of mind in all our affairs not just on the golf course. I stated that the 12 Steps is the road map to a happier and more joyous way of life, golf is the vehicle. We are dealing with more than just golf, and I do not want to limit anyone who is not a golfer to be dissuaded from pursuing this 12 Step program, for it is a way of life for everyone. I am hoping that the non-golfer will also be inclined to pursue these steps and integrate them into their life and find the promises for themselves.
These prayers and meditations will be from my own journals or from someone‘s question during any given week. We have discussed the importance of journalizing and hopefully many of you are now writing.
I hope that my take on recovery and healing will help in the pursuit of any self help program one may find themselves. To see things differently and shed some light on what others may be saying.
WEEK THIRTY EIGHT
There is a difference between feeling gratitude and appreciation for something, and feeling attachment to something. Appreciation and gratitude are states of pure love, while attachment contains fear - fear of losing or not having what you are attached to. When it comes to something you want in your life, appreciation and gratitude attracts, and attachment pushes away. If you are feeling afraid that you will not get what you want, or losing what you have, then you have attachment. To remove the attachment, keep shifting yourself into a state of appreciation and gratitude, until you can feel that the fear has gone.........Rhonda Byrne, The Secret and The Power... PRAYER: Lord: Today I will pay attention to becoming attached to the people and places and things in my life....I will be grateful for the blessings You have given to me......You bring the abundance into my life.
WEEK THIRTY SEVEN "Anything forced into manifestation through personal will is always “ill got” and has “ever bad success”.....Florence Scovel Shinn There is always a struggle when surrendering our will to our Higher Power’s will. This does not mean we cease to exist. We have been blessed with knowledge and talent and we now grow in wisdom. Wisdom used to identify our will from God’s. We no longer need others to play by our rules, those games of the past to gain an upper hand slip away. Our demands to control situations and people no longer hold power in our lives. We have learned that God wants us to be happy and joyous and free. The ego tells us we need to be more like this or that to fit in, which others have placed as priorities rather than God’s will for us. We become anxious and give our wills to others. Today we seek the serenity of God’s will and become an instrument of His peace. PRAYER: Lord: I will listen to that still small voice that will guide me to do the right thing. I will tune out the clamor and not resort to the games of the past, from me nor those of others.
WEEK THIRTY SIX ".....in order to feel anything you need strength".....Anna Maria Ortese Strength for any task, to withstand any pressure, to find the solution to any problem, is always as close as our very breath. We expend all our energy, wearing ourselves down, even getting sick from worry when we fail to turn to the source of strength that is ours for the taking. We are offered, moment by moment, opportunities to experience the rapture of life. We have the chance to trust our senses, to turn ourselves over to the moment, knowing we can survive every experience, knowing we are guaranteed new knowledge, a greater awareness of the meaning of our own lives when we’re fully attuned to the experiences that are uniquely our own, right here, right now. Our strength increases as we flex it, not unlike muscles. The more we turn to that greater power, the more available that source of strength becomes. With practice, it becomes habitual to let God help us withstand all pressures, solve every problem. In time, the pressures and problems seem to exist no more. We learn to let our Higher Power circumvent the difficulties in our lives. Free at last, we become free at last to feel the real joys of living. PRAYER: Lord: All the strength I need to face anything that’s worrying me is at hand. I will let go and let God help me today.("Each Day a New Beginning")
